✈ Southwest Airlines Flight 711 // Dallas → San Antonio Dallas was wrapped in rain as we ascended into the sky. Love Field quickly disappeared beneath the low-hanging clouds. We were speeding through the low-hanging mist, and I was unwillingly oblivious to what was taking place around us. In that moment, I wanted to be back on the ground. I wanted to be home in my bed with Enoch, my five-pound chihuahua, sleeping the morning away. Instead, I reclined in my seat and leaned my head back. Staring at the ceiling of the aircraft, I whispered to myself, “We’re going through.” Often in life, we encounter storms. The kind that make us want to hide away from the elements and wrap ourselves in whatever is familiar. But I have found that these are the times when Jesus takes my hand and calmly says, “Come on, son. We’re going through.” He then…Continue Reading

In the Song of Songs, the Bride Groom, Jesus, woos His fair maiden (the Bride of Christ) confessing to her His love and affirming the beauty that He sees in her—despite her weakness.  In Song of Song 4, the bride professing to her lover that she will get up and go her way to the mountain of Myrrh (symbolizing suffering) and the hill of Frankincense (symbolizing prayer). After this confessing the Groom affirms her and His love for her saying, “You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you.” (Song of Songs 4:7 ESV) He declares his pleasure over her even though she has not departed. He concluded His affirmation with a invitation and a charge—“Come with me from Lebanon, my bride; come with me from Lebanon. Depart from the peak of Amana, from the peak of Senir and Hermon, from the dens of lions, from the…Continue Reading
Dear Diary
This originally was not written for a blog post. It’s from my own personal journal. I felt to share with you my journal entry, a little piece of my heart and struggles written on May 17th. This is raw with nothing edited, just as I wrote it over a month ago. I think I have never had such deep revelation of my life really not being my own until having Maddox. I miss free time! They say life gets easier but I don’t see it. Time is fleeting and sometimes I feel in a panic. Am I doing anything? What do I want to do with my life? Do I want more kids? Do I want to be a full time mom? Do I want to live overseas forever? Do I want to work? Life…What does it hold? It seems when I finally ‘arrive’ to something I’ve dreamt of for years…Continue Reading
Gibsons Go Global - Awaken mag
In September, Jeremiah and Katie Gibson set out from Texas, believing that God was calling them to a round-the-world faith journey. As with most faith journeys, they didn’t know where they’d end up or how they’d afford it. They simply said “yes” to God’s call and trusted that he would work out the details. Five months and six locations later, they stumbled into my apartment in Prishtina, Kosovo, exhausted from an all-night travel schedule made worse by delays. After some rest and a strong cup of tea, the Gibsons told me how their global adventure began. When they got engaged last winter, both Jeremiah and Katie had a heart for missions. As they prepared for marriage, they sought God’s plan for their first year together, hopeful that he might release them to minister in the nations. Ten months passed with little direction. Then the Gibsons began receiving “go” words. Friends…Continue Reading
Trust Faith Father
“Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1 Faith. Not seen. Have faith in things we cannot see? That seems hard for me. That feels like a battle of my flesh and my personality. I am a planner and organizer to the max. I know that God has gifted me with those strengths, but I also know it crosses the line into fear and not trusting in Jesus. When is my motivation to plan and organize coming from a fearful heart? A worried and doubtful heart? I know in these moments, I lose trust in the character of God and who He promises He is. The man I know He is. I lose this because I start taking control, I start planning, and I do it all out of my own strength all in fear that God might not be who He…Continue Reading

“The buses should be running today” our Columbian friend David said with confidence. We catch a ride with him into Guadalajara for our Spanish classes every day. On this particular day, Guadalajara was celebrating Dia de la Virgen. Every year, there is a big “parade” stretching from Guadalajara to Zapopan for the transferring of the Patrona of Zapopan from one Cathedral to another. After our Spanish class, we went to catch our first of two buses that we take home. I was relieved when the 371 Bus came into sight still having a sense that it could be difficult to get home. As we approached our destination, our second bus stop, we saw a large problem. The whole street was blocked for the parade. We exited the bus and tried to figure out what to do. There were masses of people going in both directions. We decided to walk a little…Continue Reading
